Description
Wine Cap mushrooms, scientifically known as Stropharia rugosoannulata, are a robust and adaptable species, renowned for their rapid growth on various types of woody debris. One of their most notable features is their resilience to a wide range of environmental conditions, including an ability to tolerate some levels of sunlight. This characteristic makes them particularly well-suited for integration into vegetable gardens. Their versatility in different environments, coupled with their vigorous growth, positions Wine Caps as an excellent choice for mushroom cultivators and garden enthusiasts seeking to incorporate fungi into their ecosystems.
Morphologically, Wine Cap mushrooms bear a resemblance to portobellos, which aids in their identification. They develop a classic cap-and-stem structure, with their caps notably exhibiting a deep burgundy color. This hue can vary from bright red to purplish shades, depending on sun exposure, and may fade to medium brown. The caps often display fluffy white tufts, particularly near the margins and more prominently in younger mushrooms. The gills of Wine Caps are purple-gray, turning dark purple-brown when filled with spores of the same color. Their flesh and stem are cream to white, featuring a distinctive ring covering the gills in younger stages. As they mature, this ring, which is radially split and not fibrous like Amanitas or cobwebby like Cortinarius, travels down the stem, often breaking off in chunks or resembling a cogwheel. This unique feature further distinguishes Wine Caps in the diverse world of mycology.
Overview of The Wine Cap Liquid Culture Syringe
Wine Cap Liquid Culture Syringe or LC, is perfect for your home mushroom research. This easy-to-use syringe is pre-filled with a living mycelium suspended in a nutrient broth of the famous Wine Cap mushroom strain, so you can begin researching the mushrooms immediately! In addition, our liquid culture syringes are made from high-end isolations that will speed your research efforts up to speed much faster than our spores!
Product Volume: 10 Milliliters
Ingredients: Thick Spores brand mushroom liquid culture syringes are made with 100% natural ingredients and are non-toxic.
Culture media: Extra Light Malt Extract or Potato Dextrose for maximum shelf life and protection from senescence.
Usage
How to use a mushroom liquid culture syringe:
- Prepare the work area: Before you begin, ensure your workspace is clean and sanitized. You will need a clean surface to rest the syringe on and safe disposal for any used materials.
- Handle the syringe with care to avoid any accidental spills or contamination.
- Prepare the solution: Open the mushroom liquid culture syringe and make sure that the aqueous solution is clear, other than the mycelium. If the aqueous solution is cloudy, discard it and start with a new one.
- Prepare a microscopy slide or sanitize the area to be penetrated by the dispensing needle
- Dispense a small amount of the solution onto a microscopy slide, or inject 1 milliliter into the container you will use through a self-healing injection port.
Tips and Tricks for successful usage
- Always be as clean as possible.
- Wear clean clothing.
- Practice good oral hygiene.
- Wear new gloves every time.
- Wipe all surfaces, including gloves, with disinfectant.
- Do not introduce un-sanitized items into a sanitized work area.
Advantages of a liquid culture syringe over a spore syringe
A liquid culture syringe has a significant advantage over a spore syringe in terms of the time you do not have to wait for germination. A liquid culture syringe will save you weeks to months in your endeavor. Another advantage is that liquid cultures can be advanced genetic isolates that can outperform spores. Thick Spores sells only genetically isolated LC.
Shelf Life & Storage
Liquid Culture syringes have a shelf life of approximately three months before the nutrient broth becomes depleted of nutrients. Therefore, you must either use the LC before three months or transfer the mycelium in the syringe to a new and sterile medium with fresh nutrients.
