A while back I purchased an LC syringe and inoculated 3 grain bags with a single syringe. All of the bags were contaminated after a week. I use a flow hood and am well versed in the sterile procedures so I was surprised to see 3 bags go bad with the technique that has gotten me through years of growing. I attributed it to myself possibly messing the millet up that I had pressure cooked and bagged myself. So, I bought 2 of these golden teachers syringes and ordered 4 new bags from Northspore (I’ve used them before and they’re fairly reputable). I inoculated 4 bags total with 5cc in each. The first syringe and 2 bags have contamination but, the second syringe and 2 bags have been doing fine. Actually really good considering I did not put any of these to agar and grow out a culture. So I was disappointed with one of the syringes but, the other syringe has produced fast growing healthy mycelium. I know it’s a gamble once they’re in my hands but, I do have a lot of faith in my technique and practices especially when it’s just at the first stage of inoculating grain. I do not photograph any of my progress so, sorry I will not be including any with this post. I do have to give you a credit for the one syringe that has taken off just within a week of inoculation though. Probably some of the fastest moving mycelium I have ever seen out of a spore syringe. In my opinion these took way too long to work out on a plate. Overall I found that under the scope that the strain would be lackluster, but that is not the fault of the vendor. Just the overall strain.
